There’s no doubt that lawyers and law firms which have embraced AI and legal tech are ahead of the curve. If you’re looking for an efficient way to run your business, work with lawyers and law firms who are using AI to their advantage. At Reidel Law Firm, we’ve been using AI for franchise agreement reviews and other automations for nearly 2 years now. At our small boutique law firm, we have the luxury of being more flexible and nimble in our ability to adopt changes and trends in the legal industry.
One major trend that is currently sweeping the legal world is the rise of artificial intelligence tools to streamline legal work. While some larger firms may be hesitant to embrace this new technology, we see it as an opportunity to gain a competitive edge. By automating repetitive tasks and using AI to help with research, data analysis, and natural language processing, we can free up our lawyers to focus on more complex legal issues. In addition, we believe that legal tech can help us provide a higher level of service to our clients, as it allows us to work more efficiently and accurately. As the legal industry continues to evolve, we will continue to explore ways to use legal tech to our advantage.
In the future we see AI playing an even bigger role in the legal industry as a whole and specifically here at Reidel Law Firm. We believe that by continuing to utilize and explore AI’s capabilities we will be able to provide an even higher level of service to our clients while simultaneously freeing up our lawyers time to focus on more important tasks. Some of the cutting edge AI tools we utilize at Reidel Law Firm to improve our client services include:
AI Assisted Franchise Agreement Reviews.
We started working with Della Legal at the start of 2022 to create a customized AI model to read franchise agreements the way we do at Reidel Law Firm and to issue spot and generate our comments, depending on what is actually in the franchise agreement. This project has been a tremendous eye-opener to the capabilities and ease of use of AI in the legal world. Seeing how I can teach an AI model to read and issue spot the way I do as a lawyer everyday and do so in a fraction of the time is amazing. With Della Legal we have a process where the AI does the first read of the franchise agreement using my own customized checklist and issue spotting for the important items I always look for. Then myself or another franchise attorney steps in and reviews the AI work making any corrections as necessary and confirming the output memo. With both a man and a machine we are able to achieve a nearly flawless review than would be able using either man or machine alone.
AI Assisted Legal Research.
We also use AI to do a lot of the primary and novel legal research within Reidel Law Firm. We use Alexsei as our main research platform which has an AI component which helps us dive deep into specific client questions we come across. With Alexsei we are able to take a complicated legal question, break it down into smaller pieces and then have the AI go out and find the most relevant cases, statutes and articles to help us understand the law and how it may apply to our client’s specific situation. After the AI has done its work, one of our lawyers then takes the information it has found, analzyes it and writes up a memo for the client explaining everything in plain English.
Smart Contract Templating.
This is an active project here at Reidel Law Firm where are developing smart legal contract templates in the franchise and international trade space. We likely won’t have a workable demo on this till mid-2023 or so but we are excited and diligently exploring how to utilize automations and smart contracts in our industries to make our client’s lives easier and their business and contracting more efficient. Our initial smart contract is focused on creating a living, revisable FDD and franchise agreement so that annual FDD renewals are streamlined and easier than ever before for our franchisor clients.
AI Assisted Copywriting.
We have started using an AI copywriting improvement tool called JasperAI. JasperAI takes your current content or writing and analyzes it for style, voice, grammar, and other copywriting best practices. It then gives you suggestions on how to improve your writing. We have found this tool to be invaluable in helping us to create more compelling and interesting content for our website and blog and even legal memos. In fact, Jasper helped me write this article and improve some of the ideas I wanted to get across.
These are just a few of the ways we are utilizing AI at Reidel Law Firm to change the way we practice law and serve our clients. We are always on the lookout for new and innovative ways to use legal tech to streamline our processes and provide the best possible service to our clients.
